Adults Vocational Program

Our Vocational Program works with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) to help individuals with disabilities, who are capable of obtaining and maintaining employment, to prepare for and find employment.

We serve all ages, from high school to senior citizen. Easterseals NW AL provides training, resources and individual assistance to ensure that individuals with disabilities have the same opportunity to succeed as a person without a disability.

The Workshop

Our Workshop is a full-service industrial Workshop. We do wood cutting projects, assembly projects, packaging and sorting projects and even metal and welding projects.  For example, we have built "Side-Racks" for the US Department of Defense that fit Army and Marine vehicles. Most of our work is sub-contract work for local industries.  Our customers expect and receive the same quality work that a company might expect from any other industrial shop.  We take pride in our work and in our workers.

The only difference in our Workshop and any other local industrial shop, is that we employ individuals with disabilities. Each of our current employees has a severe disability that has hindered their employment in the regular workforce, however they have many of the same "abilities" as any other worker.  Most importantly, they are very willing and able to do the work, when a few accommodations are made.

For additional information contact the Vocational Services Department or the The Workshop at 256-381-1110.

Vocational Rehab Services helps Alabamians with disabilities achieve independence through employment.  VRS provides specialized employment- and education-related services and training to assist teens and adults with disabilities in becoming employed.

Christian Women's Job Corps of the Shoals is a community-wide ministry of the Women’s Missionary Union committed to helping ladies develop into responsible, employable individuals, with good character and a strong moral foundation, moving them toward self-sufficiency.  Bible study and one-on-one mentoring are the key factors and are what set this ministry apart from other job-readiness programs. Life skills and of course workforce readiness training are also mainstays.

DHR Jobs Program provides services and work supports to parents receiving cash assistance to help them find and retain employment. These services and supports seek to address barriers such as lack of adequate child care, poor access to transportation, domestic violence and substance abuse, all which greatly limit the ability to obtain and retain employment.

Services also include employ-ability assessments, job readiness and job skills training, disability assessments and adult education.
